Lake Vermilion TOC
MN Bass Tour Members gathered at Lake Vermilion for the last tournament of the year on September 9th and 10th. The Tournament of Champions (“TOC”) represents the MN Bass Tour’s final event of the year and is the only two day event of the year.
The cumulative weight over each day wins the largest payouts we have for the year and oftentimes results in significant shifting of teams as they ramble for Team of the Year points at the same time. Our weather was generally stable with sunny and 70 degree days Friday-Sunday and with south winds from 5-10 mph.
July 30th marked the 7th time fishing Lake Minnetonka and MN Bass Tour members were greeted with a sunrise having the endless spectrum of orange and red hues. It’s always breathtaking to have this as the backdrop for our blastoffs and racing to our first fishing spot for the day.
As the sunrise faded and the day completed, the total weight of bass caught by all anglers was the highest compared to all previous visits to Lake Minnetonka. However, with the warm skies, calm winds and being the most visited recreational lake in the state – it still made it challenging day for teams.
The second event of 2017 is in the books and as highlighted in previous recaps, Lake Waconia hasn’t been kind weather-wise to the MN Bass Tour. Of the 3 previous events, all were delayed due to severe weather. On the flip-side, tourney results didn’t seem to be hampered by how those days started.
So while the weather wasn’t severe, it still presented it’s own challenges. Temps at blast-off were low 50’s never getting higher than 65, overcast clouds until 11:00 and anglers managing a 10-15 mph northwest wind all day long. Tour members couldn’t help but wonder if we skipped over summer and went straight into Fall!
But it was Team Flippin’ & Lippin’ of Mike Doughty and Tim “Krebby” Krebs who healed their wounds from their lackluster finish in August 2015. That day, they were only able to muster up 11.75 lbs.
